The Belmont County Board of Commissioners voted March 18 to endorse adding a Roth 457 option to the Ohio County Employees Retirement Plan (OCERP). The resolution, introduced and moved by Commissioner Jerry Echemann and seconded by Commissioner Vince Gianangeli, passed unanimously.
The board’s resolution cites Senate Bill 220 and directs Empower Retirement, OCERP’s administrator, to contact county staff and employees about the new option so workers can consider the potential tax and retirement-planning implications. The resolution states the change would take effect Jan. 1, 2027.
County documents filed with the vote note that the change was reviewed and recommended by the OCERP committee and the CCAO Service Corporation advisory board. Commissioners said the Roth option expands employees’ portfolio choices and could offer additional tax planning flexibility.
No public debate or objection was recorded; the motion passed on a roll-call vote with all three commissioners voting Yes. The board’s action is an endorsement directing OCERP and Empower Retirement to implement communications and enrollment steps where applicable.
