County clerk posts dog-license changes, job openings and health events; sheriff seeks jail-nurse applicants

Clerk Melissa N. Schaar used the March 30 meeting to remind residents about dog-license fees, list county job openings and public-health events.

Schaar said standard dog licenses are $16 when purchased by Jan. 31, 2026; late purchases incur a $16 penalty per dog (bringing the late total to $32). She stated that House Bill 247, signed by Governor DeWine in December 2025, redefines what constitutes a nuisance, dangerous, or vicious dog and that the license fee for a dog classified as dangerous or vicious has increased from $50 to $100; dangerous/vicious dog licenses must be purchased in person at the Dog Pound or the Auditor’s office. The Dog Warden, Merle Long, filed the weekly report for March 22–28, 2026: 6 dogs impounded, 2 adopted, 1 redeemed, 0 euthanized, and no citations for no license, running at large, or rabies-quarantine violations.

Schaar also announced county job listings: part-time transit drivers and a part-time dispatcher/scheduler for Transit, and openings at the Carroll Golden Age Retreat for nurse aide, activity assistant, housekeeping and kitchen positions. Notices were pinned to the Commissioners’ Facebook page and readers were directed to OhioMeansJobs Carroll County. The Health Department will hold a Pop-Up Pantry on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 from 12:00–2:00 p.m. at Carrollton Church of Christ on Moody Avenue and a Mobile Clinic Day at the Health Department on April 1 from 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

Sheriff Calvin Graham said the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for a jail nurse and that continued rain could produce the usual seasonal road closures in low-lying and backwater-prone areas.
