Commissioners approve county participation in Saddle Creek TIRZ extension for 42-unit affordable-housing project

The Jim Wells County Commissioners Court voted to participate in an amended Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) No. 3 for the Saddle Creek area and authorized the county judge to sign any necessary agreements to reflect the extension. County staff explained the City of Dallas has extended the TIRZ end date to 2040, and the county’s participation requires an amendment to the interlocal agreement.
Vincent Marquez, president of NRC, described the Saddle Creek Terrace proposal as a roughly 42-unit single-family affordable housing development with curbs, gutters and cemented streets; he estimated a price point around $190,250 and said the project would add new infrastructure and quality-of-life improvements in the district. "We plan on building affordable housing… I'm really looking forward to it," Marquez said.
The court moved, seconded and approved the item by voice vote; commissioners directed staff to draft the amended interlocal agreement for the judge’s signature.
