Denton County district pauses Lantana Hike and Bike Trail grant work pending county coordination

At its Jan. 12 meeting the Board of Denton County Development District No. 4 agreed to pause grant applications and project planning for the Lantana Hike and Bike Trail Extension Project until the District meets with the Denton County Judge to determine the route that aligns with the county’s master trail vision.
President Brandi Bird reported that the District needs clarity on which route to pursue and recommended pausing any grant requests or project planning until that coordination occurs. The minutes record that the Board agreed it was in the district’s best interest to pause work and that no formal Board action was required at this time. The minutes also note that Director Julia Kerestine attended via Zoom during this item.
The pause preserves the District’s flexibility to align a future grant application with county planning and to avoid pursuing a proposal that may conflict with the county’s established trail master plan. Next steps in the minutes are a meeting with the Denton County Judge to determine the preferred route and subsequent alignment of the District’s proposal with county guidance.
