The Laurel City Council held routine business at its Feb. 24 meeting and approved several procedural items and appointments unanimously.
Council Member Thomas Canape moved to approve the revised minutes of the Jan. 13, 2026 regular meeting, seconded by Council Member Irv Wilke; the motion passed 8-0. Council Member Jessica Banks moved to approve the Jan. 27, 2026 minutes; that motion also passed 8-0. The consent agenda — including claims through Feb. 20, 2026, the Clerk/Treasurer financial statements for January 2026, and the payroll register for the pay period ending Feb. 15, 2026 (totaling $257,037.96) — passed by roll call, 8-0.
Under scheduled matters the council confirmed several mayoral appointments. Cheryl Hill was moved from an advisory to a voting member of the Laurel Urban Renewal Agency for a four-year term ending Dec. 31, 2029; the motion carried unanimously. Chris White was appointed to the Urban Renewal Agency for a four-year term ending Dec. 31, 2029, and James Kuhr was appointed to the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department after Fire Chief J.W. Hopper introduced him; both motions carried 8-0.
No council member requested separation of consent items, and there was no public comment on the appointive items. The meeting concluded after a brief emergency-services update and discussion about public-records procedures. The council adjourned at 7:29 p.m.
