The Lake County Board of Commissioners proclaimed May 2026 as Foster Parent Recognition Month and heard officials urge expanded recruitment of foster families.
Suzanne (introduced by the board) said job and family services had nearly 120 children in county custody last year and that outreach efforts this year will focus on increasing the number of foster parents in Lake County. She invited Jean Tetrick, identified in the meeting as supervisor of the substitute care unit at Job and Family Services, to speak about foster-family needs.
Tetrick said Lake County currently has about 41 foster families and praised the people who open their homes to children in care. “We have a small group of foster families, 41 altogether, who really do give their hearts and souls,” Tetrick said, and he described agency efforts to recruit additional families through the county website and social media.
Commissioners expressed support and noted collaboration between the board and Job and Family Services on recruitment and training initiatives. One commissioner referenced a recent visitor with foster-care experience to underscore foster care’s long-term impact on children.
The board approved the proclamation by roll call and thanked foster parents and agency staff for their work. Officials said more recruitment activity and public outreach are planned for the coming months.
