Prosperity Market thanks Healthy Refrigeration Grant for equipment that its leaders say will expand food access

Representatives Carmen and Kara, who identified themselves as members of Prosperity Market, thanked the Healthy Refrigeration Grant for funding refrigeration equipment they said the organization had long needed. They told meeting attendees the new units are installed in a mobile trailer and in a commercial kitchen and are already increasing the group’s ability to store and distribute food.

The two said Prosperity Market is a mobile farmers market that features Black farmers, food producers and chefs and brings fresh food directly into communities that need it. "We just bring healthy good foods directly into communities that need it," one of the speakers said, adding that the grant paid for refrigeration they could not have otherwise purchased.

They described practical impacts: refrigeration in the trailer and kitchen lets them store product for longer, expand an online farmers market to reach more customers and provide space and capacity for the farmers and vendors they work with. "With your grant funding, we have been able to buy refrigeration equipment" and "with the trailer, we're just gonna be able to scale that exponentially," the speakers said.

The representatives said the equipment benefits both the nonprofit’s operations and the producers it serves by allowing vendors to keep product on hand for sale. They closed by thanking grantmakers for making the purchase possible.
