Hancock County moves forward on jail chiller; commissioners review generator and IT HVAC options

Captain Sterrett briefed the board on a new chiller for the Hancock County jail, including a grant that will cover a portion of the cost. The board confirmed they want Sterrett to move forward with the project and indicated belief the chiller work can be completed this year.
During a 10:30 a.m. meeting with county maintenance and IT staff, Adam Miller reviewed options for replacing IT air-conditioning units and integrating new units with the county control system. Miller said Automated Logic quoted $4,988 to connect the new AC units for remote monitoring and control; commissioners approved proceeding once final installation locations are confirmed and landscape options are provided as requested by Commissioner Bechtol.
Miller also reported the county will retest the current outside fuel tank in April; if the tank fails inspection, staff provided replacement quotes: a diesel generator unit for $105,539 and a natural-gas unit for $182,524. Commissioners did not record a purchase decision at the March 19 session; they directed staff to proceed with necessary testing and to prepare resolutions for any required procurements.
Staff brought additional maintenance and procurement quotes: County Electric quoted $7,800 to reinstall a fallen light pole at Job & Family Services and install a new fixture; Ohio CAT quoted $5,828 for county generator maintenance; Pleasant View Lawn Care proposed mowing and fertilizing services for county properties. The board approved moving forward with these maintenance items and directed Phil Johnson to prepare resolutions.
The board entered executive session later in the meeting to discuss personnel compensation and returned to public session before presenting the State of the County later that afternoon. No formal procurement outcomes for the generator were recorded in the public minutes for March 19.
Next steps recorded in the minutes include tank retesting in April and staff follow-up to prepare required resolutions if a replacement generator is needed.
