Olentangy Local earns Ohio Department of Education 5-Star district recognition

The Olentangy Local School District received the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce’s 5-Star district award at the board’s May 7 meeting.
Jerry Straley, the state’s area representative, told the board that the 5-Star designation requires five-star ratings on six components: achievement, progress, gap closing, early literacy, graduation and college-career-military readiness. He said only 47 districts statewide earned the award this year and that Olentangy has 15 individual schools that also qualified.
Straley praised district leadership, the superintendent’s office and staff for the results, noting that the recognition reflects sustained academic progress across multiple measures. He also named transportation and facilities staff members who supported district operations during his tours.
Board members and the superintendent used the recognition to spotlight the district’s broader academic and extracurricular achievements, noting state-level honors in media, arts and athletics announced at the same meeting. The board invited the superintendent and board members onstage for a banner unveiling and student photo opportunities.
The presentation concluded with Straley encouraging the district community to acknowledge staff contributions; the board will retain the banner and continue public recognition activities.
