Lawrence County commissioners approve contracts, appointments and donations; one item tabled for clarification

The Lawrence County Board of Commissioners approved a set of routine contracts, appropriations and community donations at its March 24, 2026 meeting and appointed James Krasenberg to the Lawrence County Regional Planning Commission.
Commissioners approved floodplain permits and a set of appropriations and transfers submitted by County Administrator Dylan Bentley; on the appropriations and transfers under $75,000 the meeting record shows Commissioner Finley abstained from that vote. A motion to approve a child support contract among LCD, the County Department of Job and Family Services, and Lawrence County Juvenile Court for $133,335.63 (term 01/01/2026–12/31/2026) carried with an abstention by Commissioner Finley; a separate child support contract for $165,076.99 involving the Court of Common Pleas was approved without recorded objection.
Other approvals included the 2026 Sebco Wellness Green agreement and a vehicle replacement and re-chassis plan for 2026; commissioners publicly commended EMS leadership for cost-saving re-chassis work. The board also authorized a $15,000 donation to Third and Center for services at the Ironton Senior Center and approved a $2,500 invoice to Ironton and Bloom. A motion to declare listed county equipment surplus and authorize a public auction at the Lawrence County Maintenance facility passed.
The board appointed James Krasenberg to the Lawrence County Regional Planning Commission for a new three-year term beginning April 1, 2026. Commissioners also approved letters of accommodation recognizing community members Herb Nida and Richard Myers and recounted last week’s dedication of the Myers and Nida Community Center in Chesapeake.
On a separate item, commissioners discussed a motion to delegate authority to make declarations of official intent for reimbursements of temporary advances tied to capital borrowing. Staff noted the declaration must be submitted that day and that the item relates to bond allocation. Commissioners agreed to table that motion pending clarification and possible discussion after executive session.
