Chair (speaker 1) read a proclamation noting agriculture’s economic and social importance and stating, “We, the Lawrence County commissioners, by virtue of the authority vested in us, do hereby proclaim March 15 through 2026 as National Agriculture Week.” The proclamation was signed by the three commissioners present.
A Farm Bureau representative (speaker 7) thanked the commissioners, described handouts including priority-issue fact sheets and the Ag Census data, and noted that the visit also marked National Ag Day. The Farm Bureau representative said the group brought handmade baskets and other items for the commissioners and highlighted outreach materials to share with the public.
Following the remarks, commissioners invited the Farm Bureau members forward for photographs and accepted the proclamation. Chair and other commissioners praised local farmers and emphasized agriculture’s role in the county’s economy and community life.
The presentation and proclamation were ceremonial; no formal policy changes were proposed at the meeting. The Farm Bureau materials will be available to county staff for wider distribution, and the commissioners indicated staff (Dylan Bentley's office) will coordinate a photo and timing for display.
