Residents press Inkster council on unfinished North River Park work and call for youth mentorship

During public comment at the May 4 meeting, resident Craig Kabilka said construction crews have not returned to finish restoration work on North River Park Drive and described debris, a six‑inch trench filled with light dirt that washed away in rain, and other damage to the park side of the street. Kabilka said he has recorded the project daily over the past three years and warned that if the city paid the contract before completion "we made a big mistake."
Council and staff acknowledged the concern and said staff will follow up: the mayor and council agreed to have staff contact the resident (to review photos and video) and to press contractors to finish restoration work. Treasury/engineering staff noted restoration traditionally occurs this time of year and that the department will follow up with the Department of Public Services and contractors.
Speakers during the public-comment period also urged coordinated community action on youth issues. Rodney Cole Williams, director of the HIM mentorship program, described a monthly program serving boys ages 9–17 and invited partnerships (www.gogetalife.org). Connie Mitchell announced a community meeting May 8 to plan youth outreach. Council members agreed to follow up on both infrastructure concerns and community programs.
