Committee approves BRAFE contract to design Southwest health and senior facility

The Economic and Development Committee voted to accept a proposal from BRAFE to provide architectural and engineering services for renovations to the future Southwest urban health department and the West Elm Senior facility at 7220 West National Avenue.
"It's a resolution to accept the proposal of BRAFE, provide architectural and engineering services for the renovation design of the future Southwest urban health department," the Chair said when introducing the item and the motion to approve.
Committee members said staff completed space and flow programming before the request for proposals so the design work will be based on that prior analysis. "So staff has already gone through the process… before we even put out the RFP," a committee member said, adding that the programming assessed how a teaching center and the health department might fit together on the site.
The design team will evaluate structural conditions and layout to determine what is feasible for colocating uses and will report back to the committee with findings and design recommendations. After brief discussion the committee approved the resolution by voice vote.
The committee recorded no further public discussion on the item and moved on to subsequent business.
