The board voted to approve the district's revised budget for fiscal year 2025–26 after a presentation summarizing updated student-count inputs, carryforward projections and capital outlook.
A finance staff member summarized the changes: the most recent BSA 55 (student-count) inputs increased the district’s general budget limit (GBL) slightly; carryforward projections for M&O could be as high as about $300,000 after closing encumbrances; and capital carryforward remains healthy, with classroom site funds and capital outlay showing positive balances.
"We underestimated student count a bit... that gave us another $177,000 towards the RCL," the finance staff member said, explaining how updated enrollment numbers affected capacity and the RCL calculation. Board members asked whether those updates meant property-tax bills would fall; staff said tax-rate calculations would be clarified and promised follow-up with the district’s tax analyst.
The presentation also referenced a one-time land sale expected to bring approximately $8.5 million in proceeds that would be available for capital needs (roofs, HVAC and other facility projects) but cannot be used for routine salaries. Administrators described a conservative budgeting approach and a plan to set aside some carryforward in savings.
The board moved, seconded and approved the revised budget by voice vote. Other financial items approved in the same meeting included the personnel action report, payroll vouchers, accounts-payable vouchers and acceptance of donations; all passed by voice vote.
Administrators said they will publish the detailed budget packet and follow up with the board on specific tax-rate questions and encumbrance roll-forwards as the fiscal year closes.
