Kent County board staff reports easement resubmission and Feb. 13 closing that will add 76 acres

County staff reported several active preservation steps at the Kent County Agriculture Preservation Board meeting on Feb. 4, 2026. Haley Stichman, county staff, said the county resubmitted an application to the USDA NRCS Agricultural Conservation Easement Program for the Robinson property after resolving prior wetland compliance issues and will monitor NRCS’s review.
Stichman also said staff plans to submit an application to the MDARD Agricultural Preservation Fund for the Kruithoff property by the March 13 deadline. She reported that the closing for the Bettes/Kingsbury easement is scheduled for Feb. 13 and that the transaction will add 76 acres of preserved farmland to Kent County.
The updates reflect routine program administration and pursuit of state and federal preservation funding. The board did not take formal action on the three items at the meeting; Stichman described next steps as tracking NRCS review, filing the MDARD application by the deadline, and completing the upcoming easement closing.
