Parma City board approves visitor-management system, several renewals and tentative teacher contract; accepts resignations and honors retirees

Board members voted to adopt Resolution 2026-05-212 authorizing an agreement for a visitor-management system under a cooperative purchasing program and Resolution 2026-05-213 to purchase Apple iPads and MacBooks to support the system. Superintendent Doctor Hunt confirmed that the plan is to install the system over the summer with the intent to have vestibules and select entrances ready for the fall.
The board approved a series of curriculum and technology renewals (Resolutions 2026-05-215 through 217) that covered literacy intervention materials, a communication platform and district instructional technology tools. The curriculum committee highlighted a Department of Children and Youth partnership grant estimated to save the district approximately $17,500 in preschool and kindergarten materials.
On personnel matters, the board accepted certified and classified retirements (Resolutions 2026-05-223 and 2026-05-226) and accepted the resignation of Jill Schishler (Resolution 2026-05-224). Earlier in the meeting staff and community members had spoken in support of Schishler and urged the board to consider her contract renewal.
The board also approved financial and administrative items including then-and-now certificates over $3,000 and supplemental appropriations (Resolutions 2026-05-220 and 221). Multiple personnel exhibits and contract confirmations were approved under Resolution 2026-05-222 and 225.
A prominent item, Resolution 2026-05-227, approved the tentative agreement between the Parma City School District Board of Education and the Parma Education Association. A motion to postpone that resolution failed for lack of a second. During the roll call, one member (Mister Reyes) recorded an abstention while the other voting members recorded yes votes; the board president announced the resolution had been approved and said the board would confirm procedural details with legal counsel.
The board concluded business and later moved into executive session on personnel matters (Resolution 2026-05-228). Several retiring staff were honored during the meeting; the superintendent and school principals publicly thanked individuals who had served the district for decades.
