Board agrees to pause hiring for middle‑school supervisor until work session

The Coffee County School Board agreed to place a pause on the ongoing hiring process for the middle‑school supervisor position so the board can review and discuss the job description during an upcoming work session.

A board member moved to delay further steps in the hiring process and asked that the topic be placed on the spring retreat agenda for fuller discussion of duties and qualifications. Several board members cautioned about intervening in day‑to‑day operational decisions, noting that the director of schools typically manages hiring; staff reported the posting had already closed and interviews were scheduled for the coming week.

Supporters said the pause would give the board an opportunity to review job descriptions and ensure a shared understanding of the role. Opponents warned that waiting could jeopardize the district’s ability to fill the position quickly in a competitive hiring market.

After discussion the board voted to table further hiring activity and add discussion of the position to the retreat/work session agenda; the motion carried with a majority and at least one member recorded as declining to participate in that vote.
