The Coffee County School Board approved a facilities‑use request allowing Dream Team AAU to use the East Coffee Elementary gym for twice‑weekly practices and voted to waive custodial fees, provided a school employee is present for each session.
Allison Hester spoke to the board about the team’s need for gym time, fundraising plans to cover player fees and her commitment to supervise facilities care. “We started that process … we want these boys to understand what it’s like to be able to continue to play together,” she said, describing players and community benefits.
Board members reviewed precedent for fee waivers and required that a district employee be present during sessions. The motion approved waiving custodial fees only; the $30 usage fee remains in effect. Board members clarified payment timing and required the full facility‑use form be completed.
One board member recused themself from the vote because of a direct connection to the request; the remaining members approved the motion with the condition that an employee of Coffee County Schools be on site during every practice.
The waiver applies to this use request only and follows the board’s prior practice in similar requests; staff noted custodial waiver precedent when a school employee supervises events.
