Board adopts new social science materials for K'2 and 3'8, approves $791,000 planned purchase

The K'2 adoption team recommended using McGraw-Hill Wonders (the district's literacy curriculum) for K'2 social science and purchasing supplemental picture books estimated at about $20,000. The elementary grades 3'5 adoption team recommended Teachers Curriculum Institute (TCI) Social Studies Alive seven-year subscriptions not to exceed $346,000; the middle school team recommended TCI History Alive seven-year subscriptions not to exceed $445,332. Staff stated that the purchases would be made from Student Investment Account (SIA) set-aside funds that the district has budgeted for curriculum purchases.
Board members asked about total cost over time and whether the purchases are paid upfront; staff clarified the cost is purchased upfront for seven years and that the estimate includes a buffer. After discussion, the board moved and approved the three adoption-related motions by voice vote.
The approved contracts mean materials will be purchased and distributed with procurement and implementation to follow before the 2026-27 school year.
