Lucas County moves forward with Welcoming America recertification; commissioners praise partnership

The Lucas County Board approved an agreement to pursue recertification with Welcoming America to maintain Lucas County’s designation as a welcoming community.
"Again, we are in partnership with the with the state of Toledo, as well as the Lucas County Library," Crystal Harris Darnell said, presenting the recertification request and naming local partners. A commissioner praised the county’s efforts and said the county and city were the second county and the first city-county to be certified together, comments offered in support of continuing the recertification work.
Commissioners voted to approve the agreement. County officials said recertification requires continued partnership and evidence of community work to support immigrants and newcomers.
Next steps: County staff will finalize the agreement with Welcoming America and continue required activities to support the recertification process.
