Rice County adopts new subdivision ordinance and updates review fees

The Rice County Board of Commissioners on March 24 adopted Resolution 26-009 to enact a new county subdivision ordinance (Ordinance No. 550), replacing chapter 5.23 of the Rice County Zoning Ordinance.
Julie from Environmental Services told the board the ordinance clarifies administrative subdivisions, minor boundary adjustments, preliminary and final plats, and waiver plats and is intended to streamline processes. "It is trying to streamline portions of that as well as just making it very clear on what the processes are," she said.
After discussion the board approved the ordinance. The board also approved a revised fee schedule tied to the ordinance changes: a new $75 fee for administrative subdivisions/splits, a $25 increase for waiver plats, and revised preliminary and final plat fees (including per-lot charges). Julie said some fees are new while others were reorganized from a previous per-acre approach, and combining steps may reduce costs overall.
The ordinance was heard previously and sent to intent to adopt; the Planning Commission recommended adoption after a March 5 public hearing. The board voted to approve Resolution 26-009 and the fee schedule during the meeting.
The ordinance change and fee updates take effect per the resolution; staff will implement the revised application processes and collect the new fees as specified in the adopted schedule.
