Grant County commissioners approve tractor lease, burn ban with exceptions and employee firearms training payments

Grant County commissioners voted unanimously March 23 to award a lease-purchase for two new tractors, adopt a county burn ban with specified exceptions and authorize payment of employee concealed-carry training costs, aligning routine procurement and safety measures across county departments.
The board awarded Bid #2026-01—lease purchase, trade-in and financing for two tractors—to ASCO after Chair Steve Stinson said ASCO offered the lower option with a 4% rate. The motion to award the bid passed after a second from Vice-Chair Keith McClure; Commissioner Craig Fredrick joined the unanimous aye vote.
The board adopted Resolution 2026-32 instituting a county burn ban but explicitly exempting welding, cutting and grinding activities and permitting campfires and outdoor cooking. Stinson moved the resolution and McClure seconded; the measure passed unanimously.
The commissioners also approved routine fiscal items: blanket purchase orders and a slate of purchase orders and travel claims; approval of minutes from the March 16 meeting; Permit #3-2026 allowing an OG&E permanent electric line in District 1; and payment of a bridge inspection invoice (Invoice #427103). Each of those motions carried on unanimous votes recorded as Stinson, McClure and Fredrick voting aye.
Separately, the board approved payment of concealed-carry class and range training costs for county employees, with the minutes noting that employees will be responsible for the cost of obtaining an individual license. That motion was made by Fredrick, seconded by McClure, and approved unanimously.
Fredrick moved and McClure seconded two related property motions: Resolution 2026-29 declaring a 2001 Chevrolet 3500 one-ton pickup (serial ending 82453) surplus and Resolution 2026-30 authorizing its disposal; both measures passed unanimously.
District updates followed the formal actions. McClure reported District 1 is hauling rock and grading; Fredrick said District 2 held retirement events and is working on trailers and grading; Stinson reported District 3 is hauling rock, grading, advancing the Ellis Road project and removing trees on Grady Road where a one-mile block is closed east of Redhill Road. The meeting adjourned at 10:08 a.m.
