Rice County board clears $88,872 in uncollectible community‑corrections debt, reappoints advisory members and approves staff travel

Rice County commissioners approved multiple community corrections items April 28, dismissing $88,872 in uncollectible statute‑of‑limitations debt from calendar year 2025, reappointing several advisory‑board members and authorizing out‑of‑state training for five staff.

Angela Brewer, community corrections, said follow‑up work on packet graphs narrowed the initial estimate: "The actual dismissal number is about $20,000 less than the original estimate," she said, and asked the board to approve dismissal of the remaining $88,872 of uncollectible debt. Brewer said the largest share of the dismissed balances are adult felony supervision fees and that some records had been double‑counted in an ad hoc report because the client‑tracking system is a court information system rather than a financial system. The board approved the dismissal on a voice vote.

Brewer also requested reappointment of advisory‑board members and named Carolyn Treadway and Jay Hawes as public members, Judge Jeffrey Johnson as a judiciary representative, Rochelle Marquardt for community corrections, and Thao Trinh from the county attorney’s office. The board approved those reappointments.

On a separate item Brewer asked the board to approve out‑of‑state travel for five Rice County employees to a national co‑responder training in Dallas the week of June 7. She said the training would be funded by the county’s COSAP grant and would let staff "network with their partners from across the nation" and be mentored by more established programs. The board approved travel for Courtney Malika, Dylan Harvey, Cindy Selvick, Sgt. Dan Belcourt and Sgt. Trevor Peterson; two law‑enforcement partners from Faribault and Northfield are expected to accompany staff.

The actions were approved by voice vote; staff said grant funding will cover travel and training costs.
