Prosecutor says federal equitable-sharing filing was submitted; commissioners ask to review paperwork before voting on related materials

John Burrell of the prosecutor’s office presented two resolutions to the board. The first authorized signing and filing the 2026 federal equitable-sharing agreement required by the U.S. Departments of Justice and Treasury; Burrell said the office had already filed the certification because the deadline fell before the meeting and that he notified the president of the board by email.
Commissioners pressed for access to the certification of the prior year’s equitable-sharing expenses and said they preferred to review the documents before voting on related authorizations. Burrell agreed to send the paperwork for review and the commissioners discussed whether to defer further action. One commissioner asked specifically to “see what Jeff Benson’s work for last year” showed before a vote; Burrell agreed to provide the report.
Burrell also presented and the board approved a second resolution to retain the law firm Schumacher Ludwig & Kendrick as consultants to assist the prosecutor’s office with construction contracts for courthouse renovations. The consultant-retention motion was moved and approved by roll call.
