Lucas County approves multiple grants, software upgrades and equipment purchases totaling several hundred thousand dollars

The board accepted a $653,200 USDOT “Safe Streets and Roads for All” planning and demonstration grant to support additional transportation‑safety planning and demonstration projects.
The board approved several equipment and vehicle purchases announced by the engineering office, including a mowing price agreement awarded to Running G Farms of Rio Grande for $59,995.20 and the purchase of a chassis/upfit under Ohio cooperative purchasing for approximately $183,879.62. An additional 2027 Western Star tandem axle tractor purchase from Stoops Western Star of Ohio was approved for about $159,837.
Sanitary‑engineer items included amendments to private sanitary‑sewer agreements for The Village at 12 Lakes and a private sewer/water supply agreement for Waterville Senior Loft. The board also authorized a $162,000 professional‑services agreement with Fishbeck to camera‑inspect and prepare a five‑year capital plan for the county’s S‑500 interceptor sewer, which runs roughly 10 miles to the wastewater plant.
Under human‑services and public‑safety procurement, the board approved permission to purchase two 2023 Transit 250 cargo vans for canine/carrying control to replace an aging fleet; the purchase was described as necessary to improve patrol capacity. The board also authorized an extension of annual software support for the adult‑probation case management system provided by ConnectTrex Corp, not to exceed $127,929.96 for the April 1, 2026–March 31, 2027 contract.
Risk management presented renewals for county insurance: medical professional liability coverage through The Hyland Group for $150,200 (flat renewal) and auto liability coverage for $372,958 (2% increase). Commissioners approved all listed procurement and grant items by roll call.
Several commissioners and department presenters highlighted workforce and interagency partnerships that support student internships and operational continuity; no items were tabled or postponed.
