Lucas County commissioners honor local leaders during Women’s History Month

The Board of Lucas County Commissioners issued proclamations recognizing three community leaders during a regular session honoring Women’s History Month.
Sonya Clonder McNair, introduced by the chair, was recognized for founding Urban Holistics and for work on urban farming, sustainable-living education and policies aimed at food access. The proclamation described McNair as “a visionary leader, educator, and advocate” who has advanced holistic approaches to women’s health and community empowerment. McNair accepted the award and said Urban Holistics “fights for land ownership, food security, and beautification within urban settings,” and noted Tatum Park as “close to a 4-acre space” that families and children now use.
Commissioner Gerken praised McNair’s leadership and persistence, saying her “relentlessness” helps focus attention on food-insecurity and housing concerns. After the presentation the board moved and approved the proclamation by roll call.
The board also honored Yvonne Dubliak for more than a decade of leadership at Toledo Grows, noting the organization’s support for more than 100 community gardens and its role in expanding local food access and stewardship. Dubliak, identified in the agenda as Toledo Grows’ past executive director, accepted the resolution and reflected on her career in education and community service.
Jessica Molina, whose work spans education, media and Latino civic engagement, received a proclamation emphasizing her efforts to link public institutions with community needs and to elevate immigrant voices. In remarks she described growing up as the child of migrant farm workers and urged the commissioners and partners to keep due-process protections central for families affected by immigration enforcement: “no person shall be deprived of life or liberty without due process,” she said.
Each proclamation was moved, roll-called and approved. The honorees posed for photographs with commissioners following the presentations.
