Lucas County honors local women and proclaims Social Work and Developmental Disabilities months

The Lucas County Commissioners used their March 24 meeting to present a series of Women’s History Month proclamations and to proclaim March as Social Work Month and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.
Chair introduced five honorees, praising their local leadership. Cynthia Hudansky was recognized for her work as an instructional coach at Hawkins STEM Academy and for leading STEAM initiatives that partner students with local institutions such as the Toledo Zoo and Metroparks. Hudansky told the commissioners that her role “is to help teachers create these lessons and deliver these learning experiences that students will actually remember.”
The board also honored Laura Kubiak, a career technical educator at Toledo Technology Academy, noting her work teaching students in an alternative energy program and supporting internships and industry partnerships. Kubiak said she is “most proud of my students and their success stories,” and described community internships that place twelfth‑grade students with local employers. The board recognized Laura Jenkins for her work in marketing, communications and workforce development, and Pamela Kaye Rose for a long career in the auction and real‑estate industry. Sharon Fulop was honored for a decades‑long legal career and community service, including longtime involvement with the Boys & Girls Club.
Randy Muth, who identified himself as Executive Director of Lucas County Children’s Services, accepted a Social Work Month proclamation on behalf of county social‑work staff and described front‑line child‑welfare responses, including a recent domestic‑violence call that required a rapid caseworker response. Muth said child‑welfare staff “respond without regard to personal safety” and thanked commissioners for recognizing the profession.
The board also proclaimed March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and noted that the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities serves roughly 4,000 people locally. County and board representatives emphasized community inclusion programs, Special Olympics events and ongoing efforts to remove barriers that limit participation in community life.
Each proclamation was followed by a roll‑call vote approving the recognitions; commissioners invited honorees and staff for photographs after the meeting.
