The public safety briefing reported April totals of 463 calls, including 124 EMS calls, ongoing station construction (Station 7 and Station 10), the launch of a regional field blood transfusion program with neighboring counties, a radio repeater installation to improve field communications, and a plan to host an in‑house paramedic class in July jointly with the City of Jasper. The emergency management official said FEMA reimbursements for prior incidents are being processed and cited a reimbursement amount of $116,079.65.
The finance and HR update said the audit should be completed by May and will be presented at next month’s regular meeting. The director reported five resignations, two recent hires and 29 current vacancies in HR, payroll updates and accounting software upgrades related to recent legislation. Public works described nearly 16.5 miles of paving planned for the summer and ongoing drainage and pipe replacements that require intermittent road closures.
Recycling staff announced a fully funded mobile recycling trailer grant from the EPD (Environmental Protection Division) and a recent tire amnesty event that filled two trailers. No formal actions were taken; the session provided staff updates and questions from commissioners.
