Committee advances exploratory restoration of Latimer (Brown) House; $500,000 Vanguard transfer to be requested

The Sumner County General Operations Committee voted March 3 to advance an exploratory restoration process for the Latimer (Brown) House and refer the matter to the county Budget Committee.
The committee approved a motion by Commissioner Chrissi Miller, seconded by Commissioner Tim Jones, to proceed “with the exploratory process with Century Renovations as quoted” and forward the item to the Budget Committee; the motion carried unanimously. County Mayor John Isbell told the committee he is now listed as a trustee on the Vanguard account and said he would request a transfer of $500,000 plus interest the following day.
Members of the public urged preservation of the Brown House during the meeting’s public-comment period. Jim Latimer, Leigh Monitor (who identified herself as a niece of William and Martha Brown), Tommy Latimer and Mike McClard each asked the committee to preserve the property, and attendees also questioned whether estate funds had been transferred.
Finance staff and Projects and Grants Specialist Scott Shamrock reported that the county has not yet received funds from the estate and provided a quote from Century Renovations that includes selective removal of HVAC units, carpet and interior paneling. Century’s selective-demolition quote attached to the packet lists a total of $2,015 for those two items.
The committee left the Latimer House item on the Old Business list and directed follow-up through the Budget Committee; no final funding authorization or contract award was made at the March 3 meeting.
