County approves road and bridge contracts and accepts MnDOT grant totaling $73,167.50

Public Works staff reported that Doyle Connor submitted the low bid of $139,757.20 for concrete pavement rehabilitation of County Road 46 between Albert Lea and Hayward. The board entered and approved the construction contract resolution.
The board also approved a contract for replacement of three structures, with Minowa Construction submitting the low bid of $677,329.75. Public Works explained that one structure is county‑owned, one is owned by Carlston Township and one by Alden Township; funding will come from a mix of the local bridge replacement program (MnDOT), town bridge accounts, township contributions and state aid. "As is the case with all of our construction projects, we rely on funds from multiple sources to ease the pressure on local tax resources," the Public Works representative said.
Finally, the board accepted a MnDOT grant agreement for $73,167.50 to apply toward the cost of the county‑owned bridge replacement approved earlier on the agenda. Public Works noted the county’s local bridge replacement account with the state is currently empty and that continued bridge work depends on future state bonding or aid.
