Public Works committee confirms regional sewer, pavement and design contracts worth under $4 million

Summit County’s Public Works committee confirmed multiple construction and professional service contracts to support sanitary sewer extensions, pavement repair and preliminary roundabout design.

Michael Venet, of the Executive’s Department of Sanitary Sewer Services, presented the last phase of a long‑standing sanitary sewer extension on Akron‑Cleveland Road in Boston Township intended to support business retention and expansion; the Board of Control award to Carvo Companies is for an amount not to exceed $2,325,000. Venet said the corridor already has a water line and adding sewer will support continued growth.

The committee also approved a cooperative intergovernmental agreement with the Village of Lakemore to rehabilitate sanitary lines (amount not to exceed $321,705) and learned the village is under Ohio EPA findings and orders for its system; lining adjoining county sewers is part of the coordinated work to reduce sanitary‑sewer overflows that contribute to harmful algal blooms in Springfield Lake.

Heidi Swindells, from the Summit County Engineer's Office, presented regional pavement maintenance awards: Perrin Asphalt received the lowest bid for the Regional Concrete Pavement Repair Program (not to exceed $593,719) and Protect A Coat Inc. won the crack‑sealing contract (not to exceed $162,031.14) with an estimated county share of about $64,000. The committee also approved a professional services agreement with OHM Advisors for preliminary engineering of the Killian Pickle roundabout (not to exceed $192,811); Swindells said about $1.75 million in construction funds have been secured and the total project construction cost could be roughly $3.8–4.0 million.
