Mesa County appoints Michael Ritter as alternate to Planning Commission

The Mesa County Board of County Commissioners appointed Michael Ritter as an alternate to the Mesa County Planning Commission for a term ending Dec. 31, 2028, following a presentation by Community Development Director Greg Moberg and a 3-0 vote on April 21, 2026.

Moberg said Ritter currently serves as economic development director at a local business incubator center and works closely with entrepreneurs and small businesses across Mesa County. “Michael is currently serving as an economic development director for the business incubator center, where he works closely with entrepreneurs and, small businesses across Mesa County,” Moberg said, and he noted Ritter’s work with local chambers and workforce committees.

Moberg described the planning commission as an advisory board appointed by the Board of County Commissioners with primary duties that include guiding development in unincorporated Mesa County through the master plan, reviewing land-use applications and making recommendations on rezonings, subdivisions and conditional-use permits.

Commissioners praised Ritter’s small-business experience as relevant to the commission’s work. One commissioner said the appointment helps the county better hear small-business perspectives and supports ongoing code review and outreach efforts.

A motion to appoint Michael Ritter was made and carried 3 to 0. The board adjourned following the vote.
