Mesa County commissioners voted 3‑0 April 7 to approve a contract, not to exceed $275,000, with EnviroTech Services LLC for mag‑chloride dust control on gravel roads and authorized the chair to sign the agreement.
Travis Cole, deputy road supervisor with Mesa County Road & Bridge, told commissioners EnviroTech (which purchased GMCO) was the only bidder; the county's unit price this year is $1.27, up from $1.15 last year — an increase Cole characterized as roughly 10.4 percent. He said the product will be used to bind gravel road material, reduce blading frequency and lessen airborne dust in affected areas. "This is for dust mag, for gravel roads. It helps us with our blading process... It also helps air quality out in different areas for dust particles being airborne," Cole said.
Commissioners asked about product choices and confirmed the county will continue using Earthbind on roads where that material performs better and apply mag‑chloride on roads that take chloride better. Cole said staff is exploring options such as bulk deliveries and potential in‑house application or shared arrangements with neighboring counties to reduce costs.
After public questions were invited and none were offered, a commissioner moved to approve the contract as published, a second was called, and the board approved the item by voice vote, 3 to 0.
