Matt Nichols, Mesa County Rotor Bridge supervisor, said the county is piggybacking on a city contract to buy materials for its in‑house chip‑and‑seal program. He said some material costs are lower this year and that, on average, the county will save roughly "3¢ per square yard" when using these materials.
Nichols said one product (SS‑1 tack) used under asphalt patches also came in cheaper this year. Commissioners had no further questions; the board approved the authorization 3–0 and authorized the chair to sign.
Nichols framed the purchase as a cost‑effective way to allow in‑house crews to perform chip‑and‑seal work across the county.
