Committee members approved carrying over $172,413 in Domestic Terrorism Prevention grant funds from 2025 to 2026 and recognized the grant in the 2026 budget; the motions were forwarded to the Finance Committee (motions moved by Mr. Rozell and Mr. Hahn and recorded as adopted). The committee also approved carrying over $53,764 in unspent Hazard Mitigation grant funds from 2025 to the 2026 budget.
Public Safety staff reported a PSAP operations-grant reimbursement of roughly $145,000 that will move to the Finance Committee. Staff said the communications center currently has two trainees and two officers on month-long leave, producing extended overtime shifts (some 16'18 hours). They said staffing is the priority and requested authorization for two additional communications officers once feasible.
The EMS grant is awaiting extension, and staff said PSAP complexity and call volume remain high. The committee took no immediate hiring action at the March 31 meeting beyond forwarding budget adjustments to Finance.
