Committee extends 9-1-1 Board through Oct. 1, 2028 and revises appointment review

A House committee voted to give SB 77 a favorable report, extending the statutory sunset for the state 9-1-1 Board through Oct. 1, 2028 and altering how appointments are reviewed.
Representative Underwood, who presented the bill, said the measure “continues the 9-1-1 board until 10/01/2028” and includes a single change that shifts appointment review so that appointees serve their terms unless the Senate elects to consider and then rejects the appointment. Underwood said the rejection by the Senate committee on confirmations will be treated as a rejection by the entire Senate.
The change places the mechanics of confirmation and rejection squarely with the Senate’s processes but does not otherwise alter the board’s duties or membership, the sponsor said. Committee members did not propose further amendments during the meeting.
A motion to give the bill a favorable report was made and seconded; the committee approved the measure by voice vote and recorded the bill as having a favorable committee report. The committee then proceeded to other items on the agenda.
The committee adjourned the business portion of the meeting and moved to an informational session for a separate bill later in the docket.
