Planning director outlines multiple redevelopment and industrial projects in Spencer

He described the North Carolina Finishing Company property and a subdivision of part of that site to support two separate future businesses; Mr. Blunt said he has received an acceptable offer on the main building and expects additional development on subdivided acreage.
Mr. Blunt also discussed an Innospec expansion (previously reported investment estimates of $50–$75 million for improvements and piecemeal building additions on an existing site), progress at a local truck stop and the Johnston Development distribution center (permitting completed but tenants not yet secured), and Willow Creek industrial/medical office projects where developers plan to break ground once utilities and permits are complete. He noted residential activity including small subdivisions, duplex developments and a townhome project where zoning permits have been issued and construction is imminent.
Mr. Blunt said grant funding and utility improvements (including an NCRR grant for utility assistance and brownfield work) are enabling multiple projects and that the town’s revised comprehensive plan and development ordinance have helped attract interest. He closed by encouraging patience as multi‑year projects move closer to construction.
