Alabama Pardons and Paroles denies multiple paroles, grants several pardons and restorations

The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles convened April 16 at 8:30 a.m. in Montgomery and recorded a series of unanimous votes on parole and pardon requests. Chair Hal Nash opened the meeting and the board approved minutes from April 15; Nicole Lewis served as board secretary for the record.
Most of the meeting was devoted to the daily parole/pardon docket. The board denied parole for multiple individuals, frequently setting reset-review dates ranging from April 2027 through April 2031. Several denials were entered with no reset date. In some contested cases the record shows both family members speaking in support and representatives from advocacy or the Attorney General’s Office speaking in opposition. For example, in the hearing for Maurice A. The board granted full pardons with restoration of civil and political rights to Sonja D. Stowe (AIS# 162779) and Mark T. Crittenden (AIS# 165486), and granted voting-rights-only restorations in several cases including Benny J. Lovelace Jr. (AIS# 323626) and Bruce Edwards (AIS# 190387).
The board additionally voted to remit fines in Case No. 01CC1998-1648 (recorded in Bruce Edwards’ docket entry) and issued pardons that included statutory relief in certain files (for example, relief from the habitual offender act and from firearms disabilities in listed pardon entries).
