Township adopts 35 mph speed limit on Interocean Drive after ODOT study

The West Chester Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously to adopt statutory resolution O 03/2026, implementing a 35 mile-per-hour speed limit on Interocean Drive between Deuce Drive and Mulhauser Road, following a speed study by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Miss Brown explained trustees received resident complaints about speeding on Interocean Drive and that an internal review and engagement with Butler County engineers and ODOT found that the segment had no posted limit; by statute an unposted section defaults to 55 mph, which staff said was not appropriate for the roadway. "So this motion is adopting the recommendation, ODOT's recommendation, and implementing that 35 mile an hour speed limit," staff said.
Trustees asked clarifying questions about how the study was conducted and then approved the statutory resolution by roll call. The change requires posting of appropriate signage and coordination with Butler County and ODOT for implementation.
