West Chester Township to apply for 'Promote Play' grant for Beckett Park West playground
Summary
Trustees authorized staff to apply for and accept, if awarded, a statewide Promote Play grant (partnership with OPRA and vendors) to offset playground equipment costs at Beckett Park West; staff cautioned the program operates as a vendor coupon and is limited to certain vendors.

Trustees voted to authorize the township administrator to submit an application for the statewide "Promote Play" grant and to accept the grant if offered, directing the funds and vendor coupon toward a playground at Beckett Park West.
Miss Brown explained the grant is administered through the state parks-and-recreation association in partnership with vendors; rather than direct cash it functions as a vendor discount or coupon that reduces equipment cost. "It's a coupon," a staff member said, describing how the vendor would apply the discount to expensive playground equipment chosen from the vendor catalog.
Trustees discussed site placement (to the left of the splash pad, per staff illustrations) and cautioned that a coupon does not obligate the township to select a vendor it considers unsuitable. Staff said they will review options before submitting the application and will integrate any award into the Beckett Park West master plan; a future discussion of Keener Park grant opportunities was also noted.
The motion to apply for the grant and accept it if awarded passed by roll call.
