Commissioners back Center Gives Days proclamation as foundation touts $22 million raised for local nonprofits

The Centre County Board of Commissioners adopted Proclamation 24 of 2026, proclaiming May as Center Gives Days and recognizing the Center Foundation's annual fundraising event that supports local nonprofits. The proclamation passed by voice vote.
Dave Lee, president and CEO of the Center Foundation, told commissioners Center Gives has generated more than $22 million over 14 years and that last year 5,400 unique donors made 17,000 gifts to more than 230 organizations. Lee said the foundation hopes to reach an informal goal of $3 million this year and highlighted a $500,000 stretch pool that amplifies donations. "It was intended . . . to be more of a collaboration as opposed to a competition," Lee said.
A foundation representative described features designed to amplify small donations: a minimum gift of $10, geographic and cause-based filters on centergives.org, and "power hours" during which organizations with the most unique donors can win extra funds. Commissioners praised the scale of participation and encouraged residents to give early and often during the 36-hour event.
