Renee Young, chair of the Alliance Civil Service Commission, called the meeting to order at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday and the panel moved quickly through administrative business, approving the minutes from Feb. 11, 2025.
The Commission approved a date for the lieutenant exam after a motion by John Gross and a second by Renee Young; the motion passed with all members in attendance voting in favor. Commissioner Matt Mohr moved to table the sergeant exam until after the April meeting; John Gross seconded and the motion also passed unanimously.
Commissioners discussed scheduling logistics for Clancy-administered exams and noted a preference from the Alliance Police Department (APD) not to hold both lieutenant and sergeant exams on the same day because one candidate could be eligible to sit for both tests. The panel directed Secretary Candice Martin to invite Chief X to the next meeting or arrange a call-in so the chief can clarify scheduling and eligibility concerns.
The commission also assigned administrative follow-ups: Martin was asked to request a second quote from Jarman Printing for envelopes and to resend an email from Safety Services Director Mike Dreger attaching the collective bargaining agreements for police and fire, after some members said they had not received the earlier forward. The minutes record NTN start dates as APD 05/05/23 and AFD 04/26/23; the commission directed Martin to pull the requested day and review records going back two years to clean up the candidate list and verify those dates.
The meeting adjourned at 12:50 p.m. The commission’s next regular meeting is scheduled for April 8, 2025 at the City Administration Building, Second Floor Conference Room, 504 East Main Street, Alliance, Ohio.
