The Alliance Civil Service Commission met May 12, 2025, and moved to verify dates for a needed Assistant Fire Chief promotional exam after the department reported an impending retirement.
Chairperson Renee Young opened the meeting and members approved the April 8 minutes by unanimous voice vote. In correspondence, the record notes Safety Services Director Mike Dreger emailed to request a promotional exam, and that Assistant Fire Chief Ted Johnson is retiring, creating a vacancy that will be filled through the promotional process.
Secretary Candice Martin told commissioners that the most recent eligibility list for the Assistant Fire Chief exam dates from 2022 and has expired. Martin said she will "check dates from Clancy in August" to establish the timing for a new promotional exam and report back to the commission.
On promotions already underway, Martin reported that four candidates have signed up for the lieutenant promotional exam and that the sergeant promotional posting is scheduled for Aug. 5, 2025. Interested employees have until May 28, 2025, to submit their names for the sergeant exam, she said.
Procedural actions at the meeting included approval of the prior meeting minutes and a motion to adjourn that passed without recorded dissent. The commission scheduled its next regular meeting for June 10, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. in the City Administration Building conference room.
The commission did not hold an executive session.
