OFA Advisory Council elects officers; Santa for Seniors distributes record gifts and HEAP season recap

The Oswego County Office for the Aging Advisory Council completed several governance and program updates at its April 10 meeting.
Ballots were cast to fill Advisory Council officer positions. P. Rohn declined a nomination for chair; ballots produced a vote for vice-chair and the council moved to appoint L. Rayder as Chairperson, P. Rohn as Vice-Chairperson and J. Gardner as Secretary. J. Lewis moved the motion to appoint officers and F. Wall seconded; the minutes record the motion passed unanimously.
Staff reported program highlights: OFA received 325 HEAP applications during the 2025–2026 season and had 12 applications pending additional information. The heating-equipment repair benefit concluded and the HEAP cooling benefit was scheduled to start April 15. Sunday said the agency had completed an initial telephone evaluation from NYSOFA focused on transportation and case management and that NYSOFA will conduct an on-site nutrition-program review April 21–22 and a full two-day evaluation at the end of May covering all state- and federally funded OFA programs.
Kim Briest reviewed the 2025 Santa for Seniors initiative, calling it the most active season to date: OFA distributed 245 gift packages to seniors across the county and provided 745 holiday cards to assisted-living facilities, nursing homes and senior living communities. Community partners contributed items: Women in Nuclear provided multiple-item bags for isolated residents; the Oswego County Federal Credit Union supplied 150 bags with puzzle books and candy; ARISE/EFR delivered food boxes that included a turkey and holiday meal fixings.
The meeting closed after Heather Snow of Mobility Management gave a brief overview of county transportation options. P. Rohn moved to adjourn, S. Cummins seconded and the vote was unanimous. The next meeting is scheduled for May 8, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the OFA meeting room at 74 Bunner Street.
