The Cole County Commission voted Jan. 8 to place a proposal to renew a countywide sales tax for capital improvements on the April ballot.
A commissioner moved that the commission approve a resolution authorizing submission to voters of a 10-year renewal for a countywide capital improvements sales tax. The motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Commissioners noted the item is the first procedural step to get the question on the ballot and described a committee to lead outreach and education. Commissioners named long-serving volunteer Brad Bates as a returning committee member and identified Logan Grama and Sharon Knott as new participants; another commissioner described Clay Groton's role on marketing and said the group would provide technical information and presentations as needed."Last last time we passed with what a 78% approval rating," one commissioner said in support of the campaign, urging continued community engagement.
The motion passed by voice vote; the resolution and committee formation will allow county staff and volunteers to begin public outreach ahead of the April ballot.
