Ogden board recognizes students, hears committee reports and votes to enter closed session

Committee reports included the Budget & Finance committee noting property matters that will be handled in closed session, an auditor update with new auditors, interest-based bargaining as a closed-session topic, review of the school busing RFP and planning toward a May 21 agenda item for approval, and discussion of a transportation maintenance facility timeline. The Policy & Law committee reviewed two policies: 9.105 (child custody/court orders) and 9.106 (student residency), with proposed updates referencing Utah code, FERPA and McKinney-Vento protections.
Board member reports from recent conferences touched on district storytelling and communications, federal tax-credit vouchers (referred to in session as the Utah Fits All scholarship/voucher issue) and overdose preparedness including naloxone training and grant opportunities for prevention and response.
Near the end of the work session, Board member Sandel moved to go into closed session; the motion was seconded by Board member Peterson and multiple board members responded in the affirmative. The board prepared for a seven-minute closed session with the superintendent and Bill Smith's administrator present. The work session did not take formal action on policy items during the open meeting.
What happens next: closed session items will be addressed in the closed meeting and the board will consider the busing RFP and budget timeline at the upcoming May 21 meeting.
