Ogden City School District staff and several participants presented outcomes from the Aspiring Leadership Academy at the board's May work session, describing the program as a district-run leadership development series built on FranklinCovey content.
"The curriculum and the coursework were excellent, and I learned so much," said Ally Johnson, the district's strategic partner specialist, who described developing a personal professional mission and practical coaching skills. The presenter said the program focused on four essential leadership roles and emphasized trust, vision and coaching as applied leadership skills.
Staff said 29 applicants applied and 21 participants were selected (16 licensed employees and five support professionals). The program meets every other year to allow participants to build experience and networks; participants reported practical benefits including stronger relationships across buildings, tools for coaching and clearer strategic planning.
Board members and presenters urged continuation of the academy as a way to "grow our own" leaders and to maintain a pipeline of administrators and instructional coaches. No formal board vote was taken; staff asked the board to support continuation and to consider opportunities to expand the program's reach.
