Rogers gave a construction figure for the Marquette replacement—"97 million dollars to build that facility... 63 million comes from the federal government"—and said CMS certification for the campuses maximizes federal reimbursement for veterans' care. "All of the centers... have received five-star ratings from the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid," Rogers said, attributing high ratings to facility staff and care quality.
Committee members asked what would happen to the existing Jacobetti building in Marquette once the replacement opens; Rogers said discussions with city officials are ongoing and the department would provide an information paper summarizing likely outcomes and any appropriation impacts.
Members also asked about waiting lists and demand; Rogers said new homes typically fill quickly and that planners should prioritize locations where veterans will remain near family and where communities will partner on campus-style single-level sites. He noted a prior conceptual plan for multiple homes across the state but recommended matching future construction to demonstrated demand and parcel availability.
