Keizer diversity committee votes 4–1 to revive All Nations Day, will present plan to council

The Keizer Community Diversity Engagement Committee voted 4–1 on April 2 to put All Nations Day back on its active agenda and directed a committee member to present the event plan to City Council on April 20.

Committee members debated whether the group should stage a large cultural festival this year or focus first on smaller outreach tasks. Concerns included timing (the council suggested an October date that conflicted with school schedules), staffing and volunteer capacity, and the effect of the election year on fundraising and vendor participation. One member noted the committee's previous experience producing a successful one-day event and said much of the logistical groundwork—venues, some vendor contacts and a rough layout—already exists.

On fundraising, the committee reviewed a sponsorship approach that proposes a $200 ask per sponsor and estimates roughly $3,600 could be raised from a modest sponsor list; the organizer said the intent is not to spend city general funds and to secure donated or sponsored services where possible. Members discussed a contingency plan if sponsorship goals are not met; the primary pledge was to continue fundraising until a target is reached.

After discussion, the motion to advance All Nations Day passed 4–1. The committee agreed Robin (committee member) will return to City Council on April 20 with a written plan and budget overview so councilors can decide whether to authorize the event to proceed.

Next steps: the committee will refine the event plan and budget for council review and continue outreach to vendors, sponsors and community groups. If City Council declines to authorize the plan, committee members said they would pause further preparations.
