Jason Taylor introduced himself to the commission as the new director for Arts and History for the City of Boise and described his professional background and priorities.
"My name is Jason Taylor. I'm the new director for Arts and History for the city of Boise," he said, noting he is in his second month on the job. He told the commission he spent about 18 years with the U.S. Agency for International Development in roles spanning democracy and governance, human rights in Egypt, humanitarian assistance in the Horn of Africa and executive leadership in West Africa.
Taylor said a through line in his career has been "a respect and reverence for cultural heritage and different narratives and different stories" and an emphasis on community engagement as "a central organizing principle" for arts and history work. He also noted earlier experience in the performing arts and in an environmental nonprofit focused on the life and works of Henry David Thoreau.
Commissioners welcomed Taylor and several members expressed enthusiasm about partnering with him on department programming and events.
Taylor said he looks forward to meeting community members and commissioners and to bringing his experience to the role.
